n the Isar River and maintains a population of 1.3 million. Munich combines old Bavarian tradition with dynamic innovation.

Munich, rivalled only by Berlin as Germany's most popular destination, is a sophisticated city that enjoys contradicting itself. Don some ironic Lederhosen and head down to the capital of Bavaria, where cutesy folk traditions ride alongside BMWs and Blackforest cake shares the table with haute cuisine.

The city is a haven for all sorts of culture, with a staggering array of museums, a vibrant arts scene and the infamous revels of Oktoberfest. Bavaria is souvenir-icon Germany at its postcard best, and the fairy-tale Gothic, Biergarten-filled city of Munich is no exception.

Munich Germany - Munich, a city that always has something going on. Throughout the year Munich is filled with festivals of all kinds. Besides the festivals, there are museums, libraries, historic architecture, theaters, and parks to visit. Munich really has something to offer everyone who visits. The locals understand the appeal of Munich, and are welcoming to tourists. They want the rest of the world to witness what an exciting and lively city Munich is.

From Munich City you are only a little over two hours from the Neuschweinstein Castle, or also known as the Cinderella Castle. The castle does offer daily tours. There are even some bus tours that leave from Munich to the castle. Your own hotel may be able to offer you discounts or point you in the right direction. You are not allowed to photograph inside the castle. The belief that all the flashes from our cameras is damaging the inside art work. They do offer photo books and other souvenirs at the gift shop. You are also only a few hours from the Alps. If you are going during the winter months, this is a wonderful place to go skiing or snow boarding. There are even tours just to the tops of the mountains. A breathtaking view awaits you at the top. Munich has enough to offer to do here without leaving, but if you are looking for a break from the city, you are close enough to some more world wonders.

Munich can be explored by foot, taxis, bikes, rental cars or any other form of transportation. In the city of Munich there are Fussgangerzones which are meant only for pedestrians. The Marienplatz which is in the center of Munich is a wonderful place to view the old and new Town Halls, do a little shopping and enjoy a meal. When you choose to walk around like most of the locals do, you tend to see more of what Munich has to offer. From a tour bus or taxi you just wouldn’t be able to see the architectural work that has gone into these 10th century buildings. There are tons of restaurants to choose from. If you are looking for German food, you will find it. You also have Italian, Chinese, Indian and many others available. To drink in Germany you must be at least sixteen years old. In Germany it is common to bring ones well behaved small dog into the restaurant. This is a normal custom in all towns throughout Germany.

Of course Munich is famous for their yearly Oktoberfest. This fest starts in middle of September and runs into October. Here you enjoy liters of beer, sausages, and singing for hours upon hours. At times it may seem like the party will never end. Beside the beer tents there are other tents selling local items, rides for the children and more of a whole family festival. The Germans love their festivals. Without fail there is always some kind of fest going on each month. Whether it be for the arts, ballets, beer, operas, or history, there is a festival for every kind of person. Every February the festival called Fasching happens. The best way to describe this fest is a cross between our Halloween and Mardi Gra. The people dress up, have large parades where candy and other goodies are thrown from the floats. Around the parade sights there are food and beer tents set up. The locals and the hotels are the best people to ask about what kind of fest is going on when you are visiting. They are worth checking out because you get an up close view of the locals and how they are. These festivals are a celebration of what is important to the German people.

Munich is destination spot not only for Europeans and the Americans, many Germans travel here to Munich for the festivals, the goods, and just to vacation. Munich has enough to offer to keep your days busy. If you have the time to spend at least a week here, then take it. You won’t be disappointed in Munich.
